Central Birmingham Canal Trip

The trip, organized by the Probus Club, will take place on Wednesday 6 August 2014 and consists of a tour of the canals of central Birmingham in a narrow boat, following which there will be free time to spend as you wish.


Starting at the ICC the City Heritage Route covers the Oozells Street and Icknield Port loops of the original James Brindley Canal, a section of the Telford Main Line and the area around the National Indoor Arena and the International Convention Centre before going through the Worcester Bar at Gas Street Basin and turning to disembark at the ICC.   Following the canal trip there is free time from 12 noon to 3.30 pm. There are numerous restaurants, shops etc. in Brindley Place and the National Library and Sea Life Aquarium are immediately to hand. Birmingham town centre is only a short walk away.   The links below give further information about what is available in the area.


Departure time is 9.00 am from Abbey Foregate Car Park and the return is scheduled for 3.30 pm arriving at Shrewsbury c5.00pm.   The cost is £17.50 which includes the coach fare and canal trip but not meals.


There are only 16 guaranteed places so get your bid in early!   Names and money will be collected at the June and July Branch meetings.
